History

Trinity Academy was founded in September 1996 by a board of directors. Trinity (originally known as Regent School) had its first day of school on August 24, 1998. It was first located at the Asbury United Methodist Church and Calvary Presbyterian Church. In 2002, the school moved to Providence Baptist Church[2], and again in 2006 to the site where its permanent facilities are located.

Academics

Trinity Academy of Raleigh offers classical education with a Christian based atmosphere where students and teachers can work together in the classroom. It uniquely offers students many different classes and programs. Humanities is one main course; it is a combination of history, writing, literature and grammar designed to challenge students to think "outside the box." Forum, Dialogue, and Religious Studies teach the students how to debate and feel confident in their faith. Latin is also one of the unique aspects of the school; it is a two year class that is required to graduate from Trinity.

College Preparation

One of many goals of Trinity Academy is to prepare its students for college. Its program of study seeks to develop high school students who can integrate their Christian world view with the modern world, think critically, and set goals for the future. With these objectives in mind, it intends to help pave the way for a successful college career.

Mission

"The mission of Trinity Academy of Raleigh is to equip students to live with wisdom, excellence, and purpose in the modern world by offering an education grounded in the Christian faith and the classical tradition. Trinity Academy is a community of religion and learning, emphasizing the classical liberal arts and sciences. It is a college preparatory school, but much more than that. Trinity Academy believes that the best education develops the ability to think critically and the skills to communicate effectively. The process begins in kindergarten and continues through graduation. A multi-year humanities course in the middle and upper school integrates the study of history, literature, and theology. Strong math and science requirements and the study of Latin and modern languages complete our core curriculum. The time-tested classical program of study is a good college preparatory program for students at all levels of ability and achievement. Trinity Academy graduates are currently in residence at some of the best schools in the country.

Theatre Arts

Marajen Denman is the director of Trinity's theatre arts department. The department produces two shows annually, of which at least one is Shakespeare. Past shows have included The Taming of the Shrew, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, Twelfth Night, A Midsummer Night's Dream, As You Like It, and Love's Labour's Lost. In 2007, they performed Much Ado about Nothing.

There is also an annual Evening with the Playwrights show, performed and directed by students in grades 9–12. Each show features three one-act plays. Some plays featured in past shows are Shaw's Pygmalion, Moliere's Tartuffe, A.A. Milne's The Ugly Duckling, Chekov's The Marriage Proposal and Fletcher's Sorry, Wrong Number. In 2008, Trinity Academy performed its first non-Shakespearian play, The Spitfire Grill. The school received a Capital Awards nomination for Outstanding High School Musical.

For Fall 2008, the department performed The Merchant of Venice, and in Spring 2009, it performed Rodgers And Hammerstein's Babes In Arms. Fall of 2009, the Theatre Arts class joined with the Upper School Concert Choir to present a Madrigal version of Twelfth Night complete with a full 16th-century feast.
